Ramses The Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs Exhibition Nov 2023

The Australian Museum will host a new Egyptian touring exhibition from this November for a six-month run, Ramses The Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs. One of only ten host cities in the world, Ramses The Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs will be one of the largest and most spectacular exhibitions Sydney has ever seen. The AM is expecting hundreds of thousands of international tourists and locals to flock to see the exhibition while it’s on show.

Think Tutankhamun was a big deal? Wait until you meet Ramses II, a prolific pharaoh who ruled for 67 years, had over 100 children and was responsible for a vast construction phase in ancient Egypt. Ramses The Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs will feature a collection of more than 180 rare artifacts and will be the largest collection of Ramses II items to ever leave Egypt. This exhibition will also mark the first time in more than 30 years that artifacts connected with the famous pharaoh are touring outside of Egypt.

Visitors will come face-to-face with real artifacts including animal mummies, spectacular royal masks, exquisite amulets, and ornate golden treasures of the tomb. Ramses The Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs will also boast the first-ever virtual walkthrough of Ramses II’s famous temples as well as the first full-length documentary ever produced on Ramses II’s tomb.

Ramses The Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs is supported by Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, with Egyptian archaeologist Dr Zahi Hawass as its curator.
