What is the role?

 

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Team Member – Honours & Awards. 

 

Honours & Awards are seeking an innovative and passionate individual to join a team of dedicated members, celebrating and recognising the significant impact of our Policing activities in the Australian Capital Territory, nationally and internationally. 

 

  As the Band 6 Team Member, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining a positive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. You will be required to  contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

 

The Band 6 Team Member Honours and Awards directly contributes to building the profile of the AFP Internal Awards Framework, using innovative strategies to recognise and promote the achievements of the AFP and partner agencies.  You will have strong attention to detail, and experience managing multiple projects and stakeholders.

 

In this role you will:

  • Perform the secretariat function for the National Awards & Recognition Committee (NARC).
  • Plan and execute Commissioner’s Honours List and Foundation Day Honours List announcements and award ceremonies, and other events both locally and interstate.
  • Liaise effectively with external stakeholders, including Government House, Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet and other Australian police forces.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of strategic planning and work plans, helping to identify challenges and opportunity for innovation.
  • Independently initiate and manage a variety of projects to enhance the team’s delivery of key objectives.
  • Maintain capability and performance within the team by mentoring and guiding junior members.
  • Assist with the implementation of recommendations endorsed from the Recognition Review Project 2023.
  • Manage procurement and existing contract arrangements to ensure the efficient functioning of Honours & Awards.
  • Maintain contemporary knowledge and subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process to ensure you are able to effectively undertake your duties and are up to date on relevant changes to procedures and policies.

Essential Requirements

 

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Formal qualifications or previous experience in project and/or event management, and providing secretariat support.
  • Excellent writing skills, and experience producing high-level reports and executive briefings to tight deadlines.
  • High analytical ability and attention to detail.
  • Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience motivating and positively influencing others through formal or informal mentoring arrangements.
