  • Full time, fixed term for 3 years

  • Located in the Charles Perkins Centre and Sydney Pharmacy School

  • Base Salary from $100,717 – $134,403 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

Our team of researchers lead internationally competitive research projects ranging from molecules to medicine. Join the team as a Research Associate and work on defining new cellular targets for the treatment of opioid addiction and chronic pain. You will work under the supervision of Professor Elena Bagley and will work on defining new cellular targets for the treatment of opioid addiction and chronic pain. You will play a key role using your quantitative and qualitative skills to collect data and work on various research components. As a Research Associate you will support the design, development and evaluation of the how opioids alter neural function to support the development of compulsive drug use and chronic pain.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • apply and refine expertise in research methodologies

  • undertake original research (either independently or as part of a team) within discipline or area of expertise

  • contributes and coordinates to the research and administration activities of the discipline

  • develop research collaborations which will ultimately result in knowledge or technology transfer leading to commercialization, improved policy or practice and/or enhancements to industry

  • assist with future grant applications and supervision of PhD students.

You will

  • have a PhD in in neuroscience, pharmacology or a relevant discipline

  • have strong expertise and experience in behavioural measures and optogenetics

  • have strong expertise and experience in amygdala physiology and function

  • have strong expertise and experience in animal models of learning

  • demonstrate a track record of impactful research and publications in their field

  • demonstrate a strong track record of effectively working in multi-disciplinary teams, industry and professional institutions, health partners, and stakeholders.

Appointment for this role will be at Academic Level A or Level B depending on experience.
