The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering modern leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.The RoleReporting to the Exploration Manager with a matrix report to the Technical Services Manager, the Senior Drilling Geologist is an experienced geologist and drilling SME who provides technical oversight of all drilling Business Partner contract performance and optimizes drilling activities on site. You will work closely with the Regional Drilling Superintendent but is more focussed on contract compliance and program optimization through data analysis than drilling procedure and practice The role is based in Tanami and offers an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth, Darwin & Alice Springs ONLY. Monitoring of and provision of advice to the Exploration Manager and Technical Services Manager (“Management”) regarding drilling contract performance; Tracking, analysis and optimization of the drilling programs with the aim or reducing drilling costs; and, Provision of SME-level safety oversight of drilling activities and the training of junior geologists in safe and optimized drilling practice. Monitor drilling daily activities and reports and monthly invoices to ensure that all drilling charges are being applied in line with contractual agreements Analysing and reporting on key drilling metrics and develop solutions to optimize safe productivity and costs Assisting the Regional Drilling Superintendent with the audit of all drilling equipment prior to its arrival on site to ensure compliance with the Standard The Person A BSc (Geology) or similar degree Minimum 10 years of experience in geological roles with a demonstrated heavy drilling requirement The ability to drive a culture of inclusion, diversity, collaboration and innovation Strong planning and organization skills Strong communication skills, both verbal and written Experience with regional and/or near-mine exploration activities Experience in the use of spatial software (Vulcan, Leapfrog and ArcGIS or similar) and demonstrated ability to translate digital spatial information to field based activities Our business success comes from the accomplishments and well-being of our employees and contractors.
