The key duties of the position include:

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is recruiting a number of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) graduates to work in our Technology and Security Division in various locations around Australia. 

Our Technology and Security Division is the ABS’ provider of innovative technology solutions and services, leading the technology agenda to achieve business outcomes, through four ICT strategic priorities:

1. Be recognised as a leader in the Australian data technology landscape.
2. Develop mature data, digital and delivery skills and capability.
3. Make it easier to deliver new data solutions and services.
4. Continue to invest in our core ICT to enable production of high-quality data and statistics.

We are looking for highly motivated graduates from a wide array of disciplines and life experiences, who want to play a part in shaping Australia’s future and informing the decision making process.

As an ICT graduate you may work in one of these areas:

• Applications Development and support
• ICT Infrastructure and Cloud Services
• IT Service Management, ICT services and end user support
• Process Engineering, Testing and Automation capabilities
• Cyber and Protective Security

Examples of ICT graduate job roles in the ABS include Database and Data Administrators, 
Development and Programming Officers, ICT Access Officers, ICT Infrastructure Support Officers, 
Networks and Telecommunications Officers, Systems Administrators, Systems Analysts, Systems Integration Officers, Test Analysts and Web Administrators.

Our graduate program is a 12 month program that provides practical on-the-job training through team based work or projects. The program is designed to:

assist you to transition into the ABS and the Australian Public Service

provide you with tailored training and development opportunities

gain experience with the statistical cycle and the core business of the ABS

improve your understanding of and gain experience in project management

develop your skills to effectively contribute to the strategic direction of the ABS.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the 2022 ABS ICT Graduate recruitment you must:

• be an Australian Citizen by 30 June 2021
• have completed at least an Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7 qualification (a Bachelor degree), equivalent, or higher equivalent by 31 December 2021 
• have completed your most recent degree no more than 5 years ago on the date you lodge your application
• be able to obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance once accepted onto the program when required
• be willing to undergo any Police, character, health or other checks required.

 

Successful applicants will be placed in a merit pool that will be considered by APS & Commonwealth entities if you agree. Please note that Departments and Agencies will offer different employment conditions and Graduate Program features.
