>Canberra ACTA little bit about usThe Bureau of Communications, Arts and Regional Research (BCARR) and the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) are the research and analytical branches of the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (the department).BCARR and BITRE provide research and advice to support evidence-based policy and program development, and to stimulate informed discussion and debate on issues critical to the portfolio. BCARR focuses on communications, arts and regional development, while BITRE focusses on infrastructure, cities and transport.The Bureaux are staffed by talented data analysts and economists who examine critical issues impacting the vibrant and diverse portfolio sectors. The bureaux also produce a number of publications through their research programs and provide a dynamic and supportive work environment with an emphasis on learning and development, with opportunities for mentorship by data and research experts.The opportunities we have availableAs an Economic Research and Data Analyst, you will deliver research and analysis and provide influential advice on the challenging and diverse issues within the portfolio. The successful candidate will work in an engaging, flexible and collaborative environment, with opportunities to shape outcomes in dynamic sectors of the Australian economy. The key duties of the position include:Successful candidates will be required to: Develop and apply research and analysis within economic or statistical frameworks for briefing papers, working papers and publications.Provide data-driven advice, on key issues in the infrastructure, transport, regional development, communications and arts portfolio.Potentially contribute to the regular production of data, including by developing and maintaining statistical production systems.Work cooperatively and collaboratively with team members to support relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure positive outcomes and a client-focus.Work with independence, subject to limited direction against established priorities and practices to deliver quality outcomes.A merit pool may be established to fill vacancies for similar roles in BITRE and BCARR over a 12-month period.Who are we looking for? We are looking for candidates that can demonstrate the following skills and attributes: Experience in applying economic research to analyse policy relevant issues, Demonstrated quantitative data skills, including analysing drivers, trends and models to identify and solve research problems, Strong output management and delivery skills with a track record of achieving outcomes.Ability to produce accessible written communication, including a proven ability to effectively communicate material of a technical nature to a broader audience.Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with team members, and to develop productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in economics, statistics or related fields would be highly regarded.What else can we offer?The department is committed to supporting employees in their career and professional development. Only in exceptional circumstances will the department consider waiving this requirement.Health Assessment: The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department’s preferred medical provider.Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at a minimum of Baseline vetting (BITRE) or Negative Vetting 1 (BCARR). You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances.
