We are seeking a Senior Principal Research Scientist to lead the provision of quantitative fisheries assessment advice within the Aquatic Science and Assessment Branch to ensure timely delivery of high quality science and research services to internal and external clients.This role requires contribution, as part of the aquatic science senior leadership team, to the protection of Western Australia’s aquatic resources through maintaining delivery of science programs directly relevant to fisheries and aquatic resource management. We are seeking a person who can maintain and apply innovative, quantitative science and assessment approaches. You will provide mentorship to fisheries scientists in best-practise quantitative fisheries science methods and promote both understanding and capability in robust stock assessment practises.Some of the key responsibilities include: Liaising, negotiating and collaborating with relevant stakeholder groups, committees etc. and interagency bodies to solve relevant state-wide, national and international issues;Providing policy advice on significant scientific fisheries resource assessment and management matters leading to the development of advice to deal effectively with Department level risks;Ensuring that significant research programs are undertaken with a thorough understanding of science objectives, assumptions and uncertainties so that mathematical and statistical outcomes can be translated into scientific advice to develop management strategies to meet resource management objectives.Providing and nurturing the environment for pursuing collaborative innovation and cohesive teams.Demonstrate leadership in committing to the Department’s values and purpose, or equivalent values in different work places.
