Youth Programs Volunteer at the Y Volunteers have been the backbone of the YMCA since we opened our doors over 160 years ago. Today, hundreds of volunteers donate their time and talents to help support our mission; connecting people to their communities to live healthier, happier lives. It is important to us that our volunteers have rewarding experiences in their work, with access to training, development and connection to their community – not to mention the fantastic feeling that comes with making a difference in the lives of others. Whatever your reason for volunteering, we aspire to have all of our Youth Program volunteers benefit from their experience as much as our communities and young people benefit from their service. Types of Youth Volunteer programs at the Y Streetgym (Tuesday at San Remo 2:30PM – 5:30PM and Thursday at Lake Haven 2:00PM – 4:30PM) Breakfast Club (Monday – Friday 6:30AM – 9:00AM) Assertive outreach with young people Youth events To be a Youth Programs volunteer you will need: Interest to empower and support young people Complete a Working with Children Check. As a volunteer, you’re Working with Children Check will be free of cost Complete a National police check (International if required) paid for by the Y Ability and willingness to comply with YMCA NSW Child Protection Policies & Procedures Available to volunteer various weekdays and occasional weekends Youth and Community Service Our Youth and Community Service workers empower and inspire our young visitors, providing them with a safe space to grow, learn and have their voice heard. From our Program Coordinators and Youth Workers, to all our wonderful Volunteers – our team work tirelessly to create meaningful opportunities for underprivileged and disadvantaged youth. Please note, the results of any National and International Police Check will only be used to assess your suitability to perform the role. Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and committing to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.
