Purpose To plan, coordinate, execute and track the overall ore control and resource modeling processes. Essential Duties Ore Control Modelling & Development Geology Facilitate geological modeling and structural mapping. Oversee the ore control resource estimation and reserve conversion drilling processes. Reconcile exploration to ore control model and update ore control estimation parameter. Supervise the assay laboratory. Produce and validate reserve block models for planning. Produce and validate ore control block models for mining. Prepare month end reconciliation figures. Recommend updates and/or changes to the resource modeling processes to improve quality and efficiencies. Verify that modifications made to the resource modeling process are consistently implemented and documented. Contribute into the evaluation of exploration, development or acquisition opportunities in a significant area of exploration activity in a mine operation. Database Management Review data integrity and quality during each drilling phase Conduct extensive QA/QC monitoring to ensure the accuracy of data and interpretations. Validate moderate to complex interpretative and analytical geological data. Exploration Opportunities Identify and evaluate green fields or near-mine exploration opportunities. Investigate the potential of obtaining third party mineral investment opportunities. Communication Oversee, coordinate and maintain effective communication processes with all relevant team members. Inform Mine Planning, Geotechnical, Exploration and Processing on reserve modeling kick offs and variables to model, reconciliations. Collaborate with the Mine Engineering, Metallurgy and Mine Geology teams to coordinate all aspects concerning geological resources and reserve processes pertaining to all aspects of the current mine project. Manage all information relating to resourcing by verifying and validating the accuracy of assays, composites, and densities. Work Scheduling and Allocation Conduct and coordinate development plans for mining production. Establish long-term activities directed toward work viability. Exercise moderate to complex judgment in establishing job priorities. Environment, Health and Safety Management Monitor the extent to which the team adheres to regulatory compliance with respect to mineral resource and mineral reserve estimates. Ensure that internal Newmont processes align with mandated international standards. Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every employee under or assigned to his/her supervision. Provide hands-on assistance during operations activities and ensuring that safe work practices are followed. Abide by and support others in carrying out activities according to Newmont Environment, Health and Safety principles Team Leadership and Staff Supervision Provide guidance and expertise to the Production unit and the exploration function. Supervise complex Geological activities conducted through allocated staff member(s) by: prioritising and allocating tasks / responsibilities. checking and controlling the quality of work outputs. providing on-the-job training, mentoring and coaching. Training & Experience Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations): Bachelors’ Degree in Geoscience / Geological Engineering / Earth Science Must be able to meet the requirement of an Ore Control Modeler and Production Geologist.Additional Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of modeling software, particularly 3D Modeling and basic understanding of grade estimation techniques. Broad understanding of the following: Generative Exploration Development Geology Production Geology Knowledge of Geometallurgy and Mining processes Experience: Minimum of 5 – 7 years’ in a Development Geology, Production Geology and Resource Geology environment (need experience in all three disciplines), of which 2-3 years’ should be in a Supervisory capacity. Technical Skills: Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Advanced communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Advanced computer literacy skills – MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Advanced decision-making skills. Advanced statistical skills. Advanced programming skills (Java). Strong 3D interpretation and geostatistical modeling skills.
