Science Communication is at the heart of what we do.The Q Retail Team are responsible for managing Questacon retail to a high commercial standard, ensuring our visitors receive an immersive shopping experience where they become engaged with science through our products. The team operate a profitable business that is underpinned by excellent customer service. This includes running all aspects of Questacon retail across all platforms (Q Shop, online shop and pop-up shop opportunities). Our ideal candidateThe successful candidate will demonstrate excellent business management skills and have experience leading: a business operation to achieve results, and a team of staff, including supervising, motivating, and overseeing staff development skills that display initiative, flexibility and resilience in a changing workplace environment with competing priorities. Additionally, the National Retail Manager will have demonstrated experience working in a fast paced customer service environment where they commercially grew a business. They will possess excellent communication skills, and have a well-developed proficiency in time management, including the ability to multi task and re-prioritise with short notice, in order to manage the day-to-day running of the retail business whilst planning and developing other commercial initiatives. The key duties of the position include:The National Retail Manager is responsible for development and management of all retail platforms at Questacon. This includes the Q Shop, online shop, pop-up shop opportunities and various other retail initiatives that occur, including day to day management of the online ticketing function for Centre based activities. This role is also responsible for leading, motivating and developing the retail team in delivering quality customer service and a profitable business for Questacon. Working consistently with the expectations for an APS6 in the APS Work Level Standards, the National Retail Manager is responsible for: Managing all retail platforms to a high level of commercial standards. This includes stock and financial management and all other operational requirements.Reporting to management on performance against objectives and developing a strategy for future retail development.Engaging, supervising, and managing the performance of the Questacon Retail Team. This includes managing the training and ensuring the staff provide high quality service.Proactively looking for retail opportunities and initiatives to drive revenue generation activities in Questacon.Management of the online ticketing system, ensuring ticketing operates efficiently and seamlessly for all Centre ticketed activities and events.Review, monitor and respond to social media for retail and ticketing functions.Developing and managing revenue, staffing and expense budgets.Liaising with key Centre stakeholders to ensure a positive customer experience is achieved at all times. Maintaining a good understanding of Questacon exhibitions, activities and programs. Develop effective retail connections with other teams across Questacon and develop new and unique products that are relevant for Questacon.aking responsibility for the public safety and security of visitors, volunteers and staff within the shop.Actively participating in project teams relating to programs, special events, and process improvement and exhibition development.Effectively managing the day to day operations of the retail environment, including leading a team to respond to business operations in line with Questacon visitation. EligibilityTo be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain an ACT Working With Vulnerable People Registration.This is a Monday to Friday full time position working an average of 37.5 hours per week. You may be required to work nights, public holidays and weekends based on the needs of the business. This recruitment process is being used to fill a non-ongoing position for an initial period of three months.
