>Canberra ACTAs a Media Liaison Officer you will manage the AFP’s interaction with various media outlets, work on arotating roster, including being on call. You will need to deliver media conferences, develop media releases,talking points and have creative ideas for media strategies. Key to all this is ensuring the good reputation ofthe AFP is maintained and enhanced, while accuracy of the public record is maintained at all times. The roleattracts a 22 per cent composite (loading). Interstate and overseas travel may be required to support somemedia activities.The key duties of the position include:The role of Media Liaison Officer offers valuable exposure to the breadth of work across the AFP and itsstrategic position within the Australian Government and the global law enforcement landscape.The team operates out of Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. You will work independently withbusiness areas to establish communication priorities in support of the AFP’s strategic and operational needs.Your advice will be timely and accurate, and you can deliver outcomes within tight deadlines and underpressure. Your skills should include being able to create and manage media strategies which help build theAFP’s brand and align with the corporate vision. Preference will be given to Canberra based applicants,however interstate applications may be considered.Band 5 responsibilitiesDeveloping media strategies to meet operational and corporate communication needs.Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to gather information, draft materials and gainapprovals, particularly on complex matters.Pitching media opportunities to select journalists.Liaising with journalists regarding complex media enquiries.Band 6 responsibilities Developing media strategies for complex, sensitive or high profile operations and campaigns.Crafting media materials using exemplary communications and creative writing skills.Building effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and journalists.Liaising confidently with senior AFP Executive, partner agency counterparts and journalists bothvirtually and in person at press conferences or interviews and regarding sensitive or highly complexmatters.Pitching media opportunities to select journalists and managing sensitive or complex media enquiries.Manage competing priorities, adapting easily to change while working effectively, quickly and calmlyunder pressure.Show initiative and motivation in planning and delivering media outcomes.Supporting Team Leaders in day-to-day management of team resources.EligibilityBe an Australian citizenshipA Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain oneTertiary qualifications in journalism, public relations/media, marketing and/or communications, orEquivalent high-level experience in industry roles.Professional written and oral communication skills
