Our Applied Science practice leverages a unique combination of technologies and expertise to engineer practical solutions to problems of national and international importance. We apply expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessments, and computational simulation methods to solve complex problems. We perform research, mathematical modeling, software development, and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants, and automotive and airborne vehicles. Military, government, corporate, and academic clients value the validation of Applied Science’s software and the critical insights gained from correlating analysis with testing.

The Role

We have an opportunity for an Engineer Intern to join our Applied Science team in Perth during Summer 2023.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting engineering and design analysis for a variety of industrial and laboratory projects ranging from programming through consulting assignments, under the supervision of a senior consultant. Typical assignments may include:

  • Numerical modelling (e.g. fire response, underwater explosion modelling)

  • Test and evaluation support

  • Coding (e.g. data mining and processing, application of machine learning techniques)

    Risk assessment

  • Researching and interpreting applicable codes and standards.

  • Coordinates and guides preparation of internal documentation and calculation packs to support internal quality reviews.

  • Specific projects will be tailored to an individual student’s skill set.
     

  • Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate student with a concentration in engineering, applied mathematics, physics, computer science, naval architecture, or related fields.

  • Excellent academic record.

  • Experience in programming is helpful but not required.
