The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is seeking customer focused, passionate and hardworking individuals to fill banquet and event roles within APH Catering and Events.

The APH Catering and Events team delivers an in-house food and beverage operation across Parliament House. The team prides itself on providing premium catering and event services to building occupants ranging from small private dining rooms to large spaces such as the Great Hall. There are also several cafes and restaurants, including a public café, staff dining room, private dining areas, coffee venues, in-room dining and corporate catering. 

The APH Catering and Events team is growing, and we are looking for upcoming and experienced hospitality staff to join our mission to ensure people who work in Australian Parliament House have convenient access to exceptional food, coffee and event services.

    Job Specific Requirements : 

    • A current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate. If not currently held, this certificate must be obtained and maintained.
    • At least 6 months experience as a food waiter
    • Certifications or training in hospitality and retail catering are highly desirable.
    • The ability to work according to a roster and overtime if required. Penalty and overtime rates apply.
    • The ability to always wear a uniform and present in a professional manner when on duty.

    Duty Statement

    Classification:  Parliamentary Service Level 1 (PSL1), Parliamentary Service Level 2 (PSL2)
    Local Title : Banquet Waiter
    Branch: Commercial Operations Branch
    Section: APH Catering
    Security Assessment:  Baseline Vetting

    Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the PSL1 or PSL2 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • provide excellent customer service
  • always strive for best customer satisfaction
  • have exceptional grooming – always present neat and tidy
  • greet and/or escort guests to event spaces
  • set up and pack down event rooms, including, but not limited to: moving event furniture and staging arrange table settings polish cutlery fold napkins
  • provide outstanding table service, including the ability to: confidently carry and serve four plates, using a high tea stand confidently carry and serve drink trays service at least two tables banquet style concurrently always keep tables clean and tidy
  • cooperate and communicate with all service and kitchen staff
  • adhere to all DPS procedures, policies and guidelines, including: cash and financial transactions stock control
  • maintain knowledge of HACCP food handling and WHS practices and contemporary hospitality industry trends
  • maintain a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate, and
  • assist in the retail outlets and other duties as required.
  • Employees of DPS are required to be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice.

  • Salary

    The current salary range is $49,390 – $68,584 per annum + 15.4% superannuation.

    Conditions of Employment

    Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

    • Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. 

    • Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check. 

    • Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
