One (1) Fixed-term, temporary, full-time opportunity from 3 April 2023 to 29 March 2024 backfilling an employee on extended leave.
AO5 TAFE Queensland Award – State 2016, 36¼ hour week; $92,225.62 – $100,052.41 gross per annum (plus superannuation contributions of up to 12.75% of the annual salary)

Your Opportunity

As a key member of the TAFE Queensland SkillsTech Human Resources Team, you will be responsible for working collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to lead and support the delivery of a range of Human Resources activities within the Region. 

This position works under the operational leadership and guidance of the Senior Human Resource Consultant, with a formal reporting line to the Manager, Human Resources.

The position will be based primarily at the Acacia Ridge training centre, however this role works closely with teams at all TQST training centres, particularly at Bracken Ridge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the success of the organisation through promoting and modelling SkillsTech’s core values and Agreed Behaviours and the established TAFE Queensland values of Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility, Showing Initiative, and Safety First.
  • Partner with TAFE Queensland SkillsTech employees through the provision of consultation, advice and guidance on the interpretation and application of industrial instruments, policies, processes and systems across a broad range of human resource management functions including:
    – Industrial and employee relations;
    – Employee entitlements;
    – Performance management;
    – Workplace investigations and discipline case management;
    – Recruitment and selection;
    – Establishment management and workforce reporting;
    – Role descriptions and job analysis/evaluations;
    – Human Resource Information Systems; and
    – Professional development.
  • Provide training, support and informal mentoring/coaching to Region leaders/managers with a view to building workforce capability, and maximising opportunities for the effective management of human resource related issues.
  • Manage, or assist in the management of, cases related to discipline, individual employee grievances, and unsatisfactory performance; and conduct and/or coordinate workplace investigations and prepare associated reports and documentation/correspondence.
  • Represent the Region’s interests through active participation in working groups, networks and forums, utilising expertise to influence the direction of organisation-wide HR strategies.
  • Deliver training related to human resource management issues and associated human resource management services, both face to face and via online platforms.
  • Lead HR projects, including the design, development, implementation and review of systems and processes; proactively seeking and capitalising on opportunities to implement a consistent ‘best practice’ approach to human resource management activities.
  • Assisting in conflict resolution through the leading of, or participation in, facilitated conversations, and other local level intervention strategies.
  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate briefings, plans, and correspondence relating to human resource management issues.
  • Proactively participate in local Performance Planning and Development (PPD) processes, seeking opportunities for self-development and contributing to the development of the Human Resources team, including contributing to the ongoing development of emerging HR partners, facilitating their exposure to a range of partnering activities to maximise opportunities for growth.
  • How you will be assessed

    The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to interpret and apply, human resource management legislation, policies, procedures and practices.
  • High-level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver complex advice and correspondence. 
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills, including the ability to manage issues of a sensitive and confidential nature, and negotiate outcomes with relevant stakeholders at a variety of levels within the organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish meaningful connections with employees throughout the organisation, effectively build trust and rapport, and contribute positively to cultural change.
  • Commitment to proactively seeking opportunities for ongoing development personally and professionally, and encouraging a culture of knowledge sharing within the Human Resources Team.
