Job Description

The Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research (TropWATER) is Australia’s premiere tropical aquatic research group and is an amalgamation of aquatic expertise from across James Cook University (JCU). The Centre comprises of over 150 staff and 100 post-graduate students and performs research in fields related to water science, resource management and the ecology of water ecosystems.

TropWATER now has an opportunity for a Research Worker to join the team on a full-time; 12 month fixed term basis. Remuneration at HEWL 4 $63,063 – $66,991 per annum + up to 17% employer superannuation contributions. The position is located at the Cairns Nguma Bada Campus, Smithfield. Due to the length of this appointment, candidates must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment.

What you can accomplish in the role

The Research Worker provides support for the operations of TropWATER’s research contracts and consultancies, with a focus on tropical marine systems including fish, coral and seagrass. The incumbent will work as part of a team supporting the delivery of project milestones, assisting in the organisation and delivery of field trips, data analysis and report writing.

What you can bring to the role

The Research Worker will have a Degree qualification in Biology or Environment Science with relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and/or training. The incumbent will also have demonstrated experience with supporting field trips or other logistical operations and preparing reports and other scientific publications.
