Job Description

  • Ecological advice and services to inform environmental decision-making in SA.
  • Deliver priority freshwater, River Murray and Coorong science projects.
  • Ecology-focussed projects using applied ecology for the River Murray and Coorong.
  • Assist with the delivery of priority freshwater, River Murray and Coorong science projects and programs, with applied ecology and technical skills

    The Senior Scientific Officer works closely with a team of professionals to deliver priority environmental science projects and provides ecological advice and services to inform environmental decision-making in South Australia. The role will assist with the technical delivery of outputs associated with projects, including those related to freshwater, River Murray and Coorong science.

    Key outcomes from the role include:

  • Environmental policy and management decisions, partcularly those related to the River Murray and Coorong, in DEW are informed by appropriate ecological analyses and advice, delivered in a timely and appropriate way.
  • Investigations, including ecological and/or environmental analyses, are undertaken in partnership with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborative relationships are developed and maintained by working with others and engaging with the community.
  • Outputs are consistent with DEW standards and scientific principles.
  • Agreed work programs are planned, delivered and implemented in a manner that is timely, efficient, collaborative and fit-for-purpose.
  • Outputs are clearly communicated, for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contract up to 30 June 2024.

    Special Conditions:

  • May be required to participate in fire management and associated duties.
  • A current driver’s licence is essential, along with a willingness to undertake four wheel drive training.
  • May be required to undertake intra or interstate travel and work outside of the normal hours of work.
