    The Team

    Sydney Trains’ Fleet Maintenance Division’s Planning & Resource team are responsible for the planning of maintenance for the internally maintained diesel and electric passenger fleets for Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink. The planning team is divided into Plan Development and Plan Execution teams, this role is within the Plan Development team.

    The Opportunity

    Reporting to the Manager FMD Maintenance Planning, we currently have an exciting opportunity available for a Maintenance Planning Manager. The role will manage a team of highly motivated people with a mix of external and internal experience and knowledge to drive change, developing an integrated maintenance plan and embedding a culture of continuous improvement.

    The objective of the role is to utilise the skills of your team by providing strategic direction and guidance with the goal to expand current planning scope to incorporate all plannable maintenance. You will need to develop the necessary capability, tools, processes and governance to create and maintain the integrated plan moving forward.

  • Maintaining existing BAU commitments
  • Assessing requirements for all aspects of planned maintenance
  • Developing a model to output a workable integrated 1 to 3 year plan
  • Maintain continued involvement of stakeholders through the change process
  • Developing sound governance to ensure continued efficient operation
  • Adapt to changed supplier arrangements, with the move away from current contract arrangements
  • As you can see, this is your opportunity to utilise your maintenance planning knowledge and sound business expertise to develop an integrated planning process and follow this through to imbed the process in BAU.

    About You

    To be successful in this role, the candidate will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing programs and/or Portfolios of works with competing stakeholders within a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance planning and delivery within a complex environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly communicate objectives and involve stakeholders throughout the change process
  • Be able to break down complex issues and challenges into actionable, prioritised and measurable portions and then successfully completed these
  • Be able to think and act strategically while working with execution stakeholders, to ensure processes flow efficiently from end to end
  • High attention to detail with a sound understanding of modelling maintenance requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related discipline and/or a minimum three years’ experience working in maintenance planning within a heavy industry
  • The following attributes and experience will be advantageous.

  • A background in rail or transportation maintenance
  • Knowledge of SAP
