About us
The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) offers interesting and challenging work that is at the forefront of the Government’s digital policy agenda. The DTA is the Government’s chief digital advisor, responsible for providing strategic and policy leadership on whole-of-government and shared information and communications technology (ICT) investments and digital service delivery. The DTA leads the development, delivery and monitoring of whole-of-government strategies, policies, and standards.

About the position
The mission of the DTA is to drive and secure the Australian Government’s investment in Australia’s digital future. We provide strategic and policy leadership and investment advice and oversight, to drive government digital transformation that delivers benefits for all Australians. The Digital Strategy, Architecture and Discovery Division (DSAD) draws on, and feeds into, all parts of the DTA and broader whole of government initiatives.

The Secretariat section is part of the Digital Strategy Branch within the DSAD and provides strategic advisory and secretariat services across a range of internal and external governance committees. This includes establishing new governance frameworks and approaches to support the DTA to achieve its mission and objectives, as well as support its strategic engagements with key stakeholders. The Secretariat is also responsible for managing the coordination of DTA’s international commitments.

The DTA is seeking an enthusiastic person to work collaboratively as part of a fast-paced team to support the section. You will have a proven track record in providing secretariat support and engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, and an ability to understand the strategic consideration of your work to support the outputs of your team.

Key Duties 
The successful applicant will undertake some or all of the following:

  • Contribute to policies and procedures to strengthen the DTA’s governance;
  • Develop a secretariat function to support the DTA’s strategic engagement priorities;
  • Provide secretariat and administrative support for various internal / external fora, including:
    • Secretaries’ Digital and Data Committee (and its sub-committees)
    • Digital Leadership Committee
    • DTA Executive Board and Strategy Forum.
  • Assist with coordination activities as required to support the DTA’s contribution to portfolio‑wide and strategic consultation, including the preparation of briefings for the Chief Executive Officer;
  • Assist with the review of existing policies and procedures with a view to strengthening the work of the Secretariat;
  • Contribute to the overall work of the Division by working flexibly, including performing duties associated with other APS5 positions as required.

Capabilities 
The successful applicant will:

  • Understand the work environment and contribute to the development of plans, strategies and team goals. Identify broader influences that may impact on the team’s work objectives. Demonstrate an awareness of the implications of issues for own work and work area and have demonstrated relevant and recent experience in governance and secretariat support;
  • Confidently present messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner. Focus on key points and use appropriate, unambiguous language. Select the most appropriate medium for conveying information and structure written and oral communication to ensure clarity when communicating with colleagues, internal and external stakeholders;
  • Actively listen to staff, colleagues, clients and stakeholders. Involve others and recognise their contributions. Consult and share information and ensure others are kept informed of issues. Work collaboratively and operate as an effective team member;
  • Review project performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Make effective use of individual and team capabilities and negotiate responsibility for work outcomes. Be responsive to changes in requirements;
  • Demonstrate their understanding of, and commitment to, the DTA Values, the APS Values and the Code of Conduct.

In addition, they will achieve quality outcomes through:

  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Well-developed liaison, communication and stakeholder management skills;
  • Demonstrated skills and experience with coordination tasks in a high-pressure environment;
  • A personal commitment and demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for innovation, process improvement and reform;
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of high performing team.

Eligibility

  • Security Clearance level required: Baseline (or ability to obtain and maintain).
  • To be eligible for employment with the DTA applicants must be an Australian citizen. 
  • An applicant’s suitability for employment with the DTA will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes an Australian Police check.
