  • The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas) is Tasmania’s leading natural resources agency, responsible for protecting, enhancing and promoting Tasmania’s cultural and natural values and facilitating productive industries. NRE Tas has direct on-ground management of over 3.2 million hectares, or approximately 50% of Tasmania’s land and sea country, including several World Heritage areas. The services and functions delivered by the Department are supported by a team of approximately 1500 employees and an annual budget of around $275M. The Department administers 111 Acts and their subordinate legislation and supports the executive and statutory roles of five Ministers, across seven portfolios, delivering a sustainable Tasmania.
