Data Scientist

Our client is seeking a skilled Data Scientist based in Melbourne who will assist with analyzing large amounts of raw information to find patterns and use them to optimize our performance. The ideal candidate should be able to build data products which will be used to extract valuable business insights, analyze trends and assist in making better decisions.

Requirements 

• 2+ years’ experience of working on Data Scientist or Data Analyst position
• Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
• Proactive data oriented personality 
• Knowledge of R and Python, familiarity with Java or C++ is an asset 
• Excellent communication and presentational skills 
• Experience with data mining 

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Apply data mining techniques
• Collection of structured and unstructured data 
• Identify relevant data sources 
• Source missing data 
• Build predictive models and machine learning algorithms  
• Processing, cleansing & verifying of data
• Conduct statistical analysis
• Analyse data for trends and patterns and to find answers to specific questions
• Set up data infrastructure
• Develop, implement and maintain databases
• Assess quality of data and remove or clean data
• Generate information and insights from data sets and identify trends and patterns
• Prepare reports for executive and project teams
• Create visualisations of data
• Build high quality prediction systems to be integrated into the products

Qualifications

• BSc or BA degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other relevant area; graduate degree in Data Science or other quantitative field is preferred
